Because we live in North America, we have the incredible privilege of being able to watch hummingbirds. Hummingbirds can only be found in the Americas. So here are a few ways to help you to care for your hummingbird feeder to keep the hummingbirds coming back.
The first way to care for your feeder is to clean your hummingbird feeder regularly. This should be about twice a week during hot weather and once a week during cooler weather. It’s surprising how quickly your hummingbird feeder can get moldy and dirty, which can be dangerous for hummingbirds and their babies. If you don’t have a hummingbird cleaner brush, you can use a bottle brush, or even a pipe cleaner works as well.
Another way to care for your feeder is by the food that you use. You do not need expensive hummingbird food. You can simply make your own using a 1:4 part sugar to water solution. You also do not need to add food coloring to your food. Heat the solution until the sugar dissolves, and then after it cools add it to your feeder.
These are just a couple of ways to help you to care for your hummingbird feeder.
