Bats play a very critical role in the ecosystem. They eat a lot of mosquitoes and play a role in seed dispersal and pollination. If you are interested in inviting bats into your backyard, you may want to consider installing a bat house. Here’s how to install a bat house.
It may be a fun family project to make a bat house yourself. There are free plans online for building a bat house. Or you can purchase a bat house too. Whatever you decide, make sure your bat house is at least 24 inches high and 16 inches wide. Also, make sure your bat house contains no mesh or fabric. You will want to install your bat house on a building or large wooden or concrete structure. Bats prefer this location because it offers more consistent temperatures. They do not prefer houses installed in trees because the location tends to be too shaded and there is a high risk of predation. Make sure your bat house location is within a quarter-mile of a water source and that the location gets at least six hours of sunlight exposure.
These are just a few ways to help you to install your bat house and to help the ecosystem.
