Would you like to try worm composting for your garden? Worm composting produces beautiful nutrient-filled soil that your garden will love. Here’s how to start your own worm composting.
First, take a five-gallon food-safe bucket with a lid and poke tiny holes into the bottom of the bucket and the lid. Next, place layers of wet strips of newspaper and lawn clippings or leaf litter into your bucket. Place your worms, you will only need a few, into the bucket. You can purchase worms online, in a local store that sells worms for fishing, or you can simply dig them up yourself. Red worms work best for container worm composting. Lastly, feed your worms a small amount of fruit or vegetable scraps.
There are a few things to keep in mind for the care of your worms. Feed your worms regularly, and keep the bucket in a dark and warm, not hot, area. Do not feed your worms oils, meats, or dairy products. You may also not want to feed them citrus fruits because these fruits can attract fruit flies.
You will be surprised at how quickly your worms will multiply and how they will quickly change the newspaper and scraps into beautiful soil for your garden.
