If you grab a glass of water and notice a strange smell coming from it, do you drink it? Most of us would probably answer no to that question, but did you know that many of the common, strange smells that you might find coming from a glass of water are not because of anything that is harmful to you? Unfortunately, our noses aren’t very good at catching most of the common dangerous pollutants that could be found in water. So, what might you smell from your tap water? If you smell sulphur, or rotten eggs, then it might be from hydrogen sulfide in your water. While this is not ideal, the smell will come even from a small amount of hydrogen sulfide, and it isn’t harmful. A smell of chlorine is fairly common, and this is something that municipalities will add to the water in their system to kill bacteria. You can remove the chlorine by using an activated coal filter.
