Almost every home has a plunger sitting near the toilet. While some of us might choose to hide it away, there are few other options when your toilet decides to give you trouble.
While a plunger is a fairly uncomplicated tool, it will not be an effective help if it is not used properly. Your first step is to make sure that you have the proper water level before beginning. While you might feel like you need to start plunging right away, it might be necessary to scoop out some water to prevent it from splashing over when plunging. On the other hand, if the water level is too low, plunging won’t be as effective as it should be.
If you have put chemicals down to clear the clog, do not plunge! The chemicals could splash up in your face and cause serious skin damage.
The plunger needs to seal properly around the drain, and you should fill up the cup of the plunger with water before beginning. A steady, rhythmical motion is the best for getting the clog to dislodge.
