Termites can do a lot of damage in a short period of time, and many times with very little obvious damage. Since this is the case, to minimize the risk of an invasion, you should try to make sure that you keep your home as inhospitable as possible for the termites at all times.

Termites will look for shelter, food and moisture. How can you make sure that those things aren’t easily accessible? Keep any wood away from your home. If you have a pile of wood logs next to your home, it’s very possible that they contain termites. Store them somewhere else. If there is exposed wood on your house, such as wood siding or something similar, it shouldn’t be in contact with the ground.

Termites swarm in early spring, so you can keep an eye out for them around your outside lights. You could also find wings on your window sills letting you know that there are termites around.
