Do you have bats in your attic? It is a very common problem in some parts of the country. Since bats are nocturnal, they look for secluded places where they can find shelter during daylight hours. Bats are good to have around because they do a great job in keeping the mosquito population down.

It has been estimated that an adult bat can eat as many as 8000 mosquitoes in a single night. However, you probably aren’t too happy about having them live in your attic. Bats will drop their excrement, known as guano, right where they are hanging from the rafters, so it can pile up high in your attic.

This is a health risk for you if you go up in the attic, not to mention that it is disgusting. Some have been able to discourage the bats by having their lights on in the attic, but this is not always a reliable method. To keep bats out you would need to block up the entrances that they have available, but you should make one or two one-way exits using a one-way excursion device which will let the bats crawl out but not come back in.
