Are your pipes insulated? While you might not think that this is necessary, there are many benefits to having pipes insulated. Of course, it will be a protection against freezing in the wintertime, but this is not the only reason why it is a good idea to insulate your pipes. If your hot and cold water pipes are too close together, there will be heat transfer between them resulting in cold water that is too warm and hot water that is too cold. Your hot water will also keep the heat for longer in pipes that are insulated, which means that you won’t spend as much energy heating water. If your pipes are noisy, insulation will help as well. On top of all those benefits, insulation can also prevent condensation from forming on your cold water pipes.

For pipes that are easily accessible, adding insulation is easy. It comes in pre-shaped sections that can be cut to length. If you want to make it a little more efficient, you can add some tape to seal it up well.
