One of the worst things that can happen to a homeowner in the winter months is frozen pipes. This can potentially cause serious problems and lead to expensive repairs, so when it happens to you, it is important that you deal with it in the right way. In fact, trying to thaw a frozen pipe the wrong way could end up putting you in a worse situation than you would have been if you hadn’t done anything.

A common mistake is using a blowtorch or similar heating implement on the pipes. Even though this will melt the frozen water very quickly, it can also do serious damage to your pipes, causing a catastrophic leak. A better alternative is taking it slow and steady. Using a heat gun or hair dryer will allow you to thaw the frozen pipe while avoiding the extreme effect using high heat could have.

Leave your faucets in the home open while working on the pipe, that way the pressure will be lower.
